Dedrick Dodge enters his first season as ASU’s defensive backs coach and special team coordinator.

Dodge came to the Hornets following a two-year stint as Fort Valley State University’s defensive coordinator.

Fort Valley posted back-to-back winning seasons during his tenure and became one of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s top all-around special team squads.

Dodge began his coaching career in 2004 as an assistant coach at Mulberry High in Orlando. The following season, Dodge led Lakeland’s Evangel Christian to an 11-3 record and the 1-B state championship. Dodge then moved to Victory Christian, where he guided the Storm to a 10-4 mark and the 1-B title game. Dodge saw four of his players earn a spot on the 1-B All-State first team.

Prior to his coaching career, Dodge spent seven years playing for four different teams in the NFL — the Seattle Seahawks, San Franciso 49ers, Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers. He earned a pair of Super Bowl Championship rings with the 49ers and Broncos.

A three-year letter winner at Florida State, Dodge was part of a Seminoles defensive backfield that included future NFL greats Deon Sanders, Leroy Butler, Terrell Buckley and Martin Mayhew.

A 1989 graduate of FSU with a bachelor’s degree in criminology, Dodge and his wife, Patrice, have two daughters — Chante, Nyla – and one son, Dedrick Jr.
