Montgomery — Alabama State University coach Jodie Smith has added three new players to the women's soccer team, the first steps to a rebuilding effort that seeks to add depth to a team that finished 1-15 in 2008.
The new signees include:
Shelby Bertolini
Bertolini, a midfielder from Mesa, Ariz., attends Skyline High School. She is a member of the Sereno Club and a four-year member of the Arizona Olympic Development Program team. Shelby also participated in the regional pool selection process of USUSA Region IV.
Lenna Lamas
Lamas, a midfielder from Torrence, Calif., attends South High School. A three-time winner of the Most Valuable Player award, she has led her high school team to the Pioneer League Championship three times. She was a first team Pioneer League selection and All CIF choice for three years. Lamas also is a member of the Wolfpack club team.
Sasha Rodriguez
Rodriguez, a forward from Hesperia, Calif., attends Sultana High School. She's a member of the Real Madrid Club Team and her high school team. She led her team in goals and points for the season and career. Rodriguez is a four-time All Mojave League/All Area selection.
