WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Joseph Bell, a graduate and former student athlete at Alabama State University, was appointed the interim director of intercollegiate athletics at Howard University.
A four-year member of the Hornets football team, Bell graduated from ASU in 1967 with a degree in health and physical education.
His appointment Aug. 18 was announced by Howard's Office of the Provost and Chief Academic Officer and the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs following the resignation of Dwight Datcher.
In addition to having served as the head coach of the Bisons swim team, Bell served as the head baseball coach and was an assistant football coach at Hampton University. He also was director of Howard's nationally recognized and federally-funded Upward Bound
