After a few days off over the weekend, the Alabama State University football team returned to practice Sunday evening preparing for this week's 88
th Turkey Day Classic vs. Tuskegee. The game on Thanksgiving Day kicks off shortly after 3 p.m. and will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM and televised live on ESPNU.
“Practice was good,” head coach
Reggie Barlow said. “I was curious to see what their mentality would be after scoreboard watching this weekend. There was no moping around; guys were practicing hard and getting their work in.”
The Hornets were eliminated from SWAC Championship contention one day earlier as Alabama A&M won the division with a 17-15 win at Prairie View. Alabama State had a pair of chances to control its championship destiny earlier this season, but lost both games by a combined total of four points.
“I don't think we deserved to be in the SWAC Championship,” Barlow said. “We had our opportunities to be there by winning against Alabama A&M, and then against Southern. We didn't get it done, so to rely on someone else to get it done didn't bode well. I didn't think we deserved to be there and now we just need to finish off our season in good fashion.”
The Hornets return to practice Monday at 7 p.m.
