Honors Continue for Hornets

The Alabama State University Football Team continues to earn accolades for performances during the 2011 season.

WR Nick Andrews, FS Kejuan Riley, and T Terren Jones were named to the College Sporting News Division I Black College All-America Team. In addition, CSN also named the Hornets as its Program of the Year.

Riley also earned second-team FCS All-America honors by Phil Steele Publications.

Andrews had a career year as he led the SWAC and was 10th in the FCS in receptions (78), first in the SWAC and 8th in the FCS in receiving yards (1,095) and third in the SWAC and T-12th in the FCS touchdowns (10).

Riley (6-2, 208, JR, Wetumkpa, Ala.) had career highs in tackles (75) and interceptions (nine), while tying a career-high in passes defended with 13. Riley's nine interceptions ranks second in the FCS this season and his 17 career interceptions are tied for the most in ASU history. The versatile defender also averaged 8.4 yards on 13 punt returns and 24.9 yards on seven kickoff returns.

Jones (6-7, 320, JR, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.) battled back from an offseason injury to start the final nine games at left tackle, helping the Hornets score at least 28 points five times and gain more than 400 yards total offense four times.

In being named Program of the Year, Head Coach Reggie Barlow led the Hornets to an 8-3 record and a No. 1 ranking in Dr. Cavil's (HBCU) Black College D-I FCS Football Final Top 10. ASU finished with two top five wins wins over Grambling State (No. 3; D-I FCS) and Jackson State (No. 4; D-I FCS) and three top 10 wins in in the poll. The Hornets won a share of the SWAC Eastern Division title, finished second in the conference in scoring offense and scoring defense.

Earlier this month, Andrews and Riley were named first-team Boxtorow HBCU All-Americans, while Jones was an honorable mention selection. The trio also earned 2011 first-team All SWAC honors. Previously, Riley was named a first-team All-America by College Sports Madness.
