Football Team Gets Back to Work

The Alabama State football team got back to practice Wednesday morning with a two-hour practice in full pads. The Hornets return to practice tonight at 7 p.m.

“We were happy to get back on the field this morning,” head coach Reggie Barlow said of his team's first practice since Monday morning. “Our guys have been working really hard in this camp. It's a good time of year to be practicing and playing football. The energy level was good, you always want more, but the energy was good. They came out this morning and got the work in and did some good things. WR Nick Andrews was flashing around on the field today being Nick. LB Winton Steward was active making plays defensively. There were a number of guys stepping up and stepping out front.”

With the Hornets moving to the second week of practice and the Sept. 3 season opener at Mississippi Valley State gradually nearing, the number of repetitions among the starters and expected key contributors is increasing.

“We had our personnel meeting Tuesday and really looked at the guys we feel that can help us and started to give them more reps and getting them in better shape,” Barlow said. “Offensively, we increased the number of plays in a row the starters were receiving from three reps to eight reps to begin to get game-type conditioning heading into our scrimmage on Saturday.”
