The Alabama State University football team continued to put in work for Saturday's SWAC Eastern Division game against Alcorn State.
Kickoff at Cramton Bowl is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM and video streamed live over the internet free of charge on SWAC TV.
Head Coach
Reggie Barlow got the increased energy he was looking for and overall was pleased with Wednesday night's practice.
“I had a good time watching these guys compete and play,” Barlow said. “We were looking for more energy and I thought we had that. They were flying around and enjoying the experience. I was happy about practice tonight.”
To the victors go the spoils as well as adulation from the passion Hornet Nation. Barlow regularly reminds his team about not getting caught up in the success and staying focused.
“We're human and it's hard sometimes when people are telling you how good you are, and how proud they are of you,” Barlow said. “You seem to get laxed, and stop being committed to the task at hand. I think it's important as a coach that I reemphasize and overemphasize that although it's great having cheers and wishing us well and appreciating our efforts, and we appreciate that support, it can quickly change if we are not on our game. I just think it's important for me to continue to remind them so they can stay focused on what we have at hand.”
Alcorn State plays an aggressive, attacking style of defense that looks to create confusion for offenses.
“They are doing a lot of blitzing off the edge, and mixing it up where they are dropping defensive linemen into coverage,” Barlow said. “They blitz in a lot of different ways trying to confuse the quarterback. They have a young, energetic defensive line. The thing I like about them is that a lot them haven't played a lot at the college level, so they are just playing fast and making plays.”
The Hornets will practice Thursday at 11 a.m.
