Thursday Football Practice Report - Sept. 29

The Alabama State University football team completed its final full scale practice Thursday morning as the Hornets get set to face the Alcorn State Braves at 7 p.m. Saturday night at Cramton Bowl.

The game will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM and video streamed live over the internet free of charge on SWAC TV. Hornets Football Gameday Central will have links to live stats, live radio from the ASU Sports Network, and live video of the game free of charge.

“The guys were very attentive today,” head coach Reggie Barlow said. “We talked in staff meeting about making sure the guys were focused, detail-oriented and had good energy. The team came out today and did that and I was very pleased with that.”

Returning players remember last year's Alcorn game well. The Hornets were 3-0 overall and 3-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play traveling to play the Braves last season and were dealt a 41-21 defeat.

“For our older guys like Markinley Saint Fort and others, they remember it well,” Barlow said. “It was a huge blow to us. We ended up having to wait the remainder of the season to see if we would go to the SWAC Championship (as Alcorn held the tie breaker), and we eventually needed them to lose for us to get there. We recognize we are not going to win games just by showing up. The focus has been good, practices have been good and hopefully we can keep it going.”
