The Alabama State football team will continue to seek improvement in its performance as they get ready to face the Prairie View A&M Panthers in a key Southwestern Athletic Conference Showdown.
Saturday's game will kickoff at 1 p.m. at Blackshear Field on the PV campus. The game will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM and will be video streamed live on the Panthers website for $5.95.
Simply put, Alabama State head coach
Reggie Barlow was not pleased with Wednesday's practice.
“Not good; just a bunch of guys running around not really dialed in doing what they're supposed to do,” Barlow said. “We have a couple of days to try and correct it and hopefully we'll have it corrected by Saturday.”
The Prairie View defense is an experienced unit that has played better in recent weeks during the Panthers' three-game winning streak.
“They are a veteran group that's been there for a long time and has a great understanding of the scheme,” Barlow said. “They understand what (Head Coach Heish) Northern wants, which allows them to do more with their defense.”
With its recent scoring outburst, Prairie View now ranks second in the SWAC in scoring offense (27.9 ppg). The top scoring team? Alabama State, averaging more than 32 points per game for the season, and 41 points per contest in the last four games.
“I like the consistency of guys like
Malcolm Cyrus and our offensive line,” Barlow said. “We've mixed and matched guys up front, but they have stood up to the challenge and made plays. Different guys have stepped up, like
Isaiah Crowell,
Greg Jenkins; everyone has had their chance to do it, and hopefully it continues.”
Alabama State will practice Thursday at 11 a.m.
