Hornets Continue Work For Tuskegee In New Stadium

For the second consecutive day, the Alabama State football team practiced in New ASU Stadium preparing for the 89th Turkey Day Classic against Tuskegee.

The Hornets (7-3) and the Tigers (9-1) will kick off on next Thursday, Nov. 22 just after 3 p.m. live on WVAS 90.7 FM and on ESPNU TV. A limited number of tickets remain, and may be purchased online at www.ticketreturn.com or by phone at (334) 229-4577.

“Practice was alright; guys weren't moving as fast as we need them to,” head coach Reggie Barlow said. “We have to get our scout team guys to give us a better look. They weren't moving the way we'd like, but all in all, we were able to get some work in. We just have to continue to improve.”

The Hornets worked in their new home Wednesday afternoon, continuing to get a feel and comfort level in their new surroundings.

“It's important; we didn't want the Turkey Day Classic to be the first day the players come in here,” Barlow said of Day Two at New ASU Stadium. “It's a different nuance, it's new lighting, and new everything. We want to spend a lot of time coming in here. Thursday we'll be back at Hornet Stadium, but next week we'll look to be back in our new stadium getting work done.”

With 12 days between games, Barlow is wasting no time getting the Hornets prepared to face Tuskegee. The 2012 SIAC Champions, the Tigers come in on a nine-game winning streak.

“In years past, you might say 'let's take a step back, and make corrections,'” Barlow said of the open date prior to playing the Tigers. “However, Tuskegee is so good offensively and defensively, we have to be focused on them right now.”

The Hornets return to practice Thursday at 11 a.m.
