Alabama State Women's Basketball Returns to Practice

After taking a day off following a 105-30 win over Oakwood University Monday night.  The Lady Hornets basketball team returned to practice in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Wednesday afternoon.

The young Lady Hornets were led in the Oakwood game by newcomer Nakiya Smith with 20 points, while teammate's freshman Jasmine Peeples followed with 16 points and sophomore Kierra Paige added 14.

“I feel pretty good,” head women's basketball coach Freda Freeman-Jackson, said.  “I thought the girls came into today's practice with a good frame of mind, understanding that what happened against Oakwood was a situation coming into the game that we should have beat them pretty heavily and that's how we need to go into the game with Troy two weeks from now.  It's a situation that we have to understand the importance of playing defense, really doubling down on teams and executing the offense.”

“We have been really going over situations with teams trying to trap us out of our special play, and that is one of the things that we are trying to correct.  I thought that the girls did a really good job getting out of the traps and knowing who to pass the ball to.  It's a work in progress.  I am really anxious to get Quentori Alford in thick of things.  She gives us that defensive presence that we need in our backcourt.”

Alabama State will continue to practice until they travel down Hwy 231 to face Troy on Sunday, December 9 at 2 p.m.
