The women's basketball team of Alabama State University are set to play an exhibition game on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The game is free and open to the fans.
The 2012-13 Lady Hornets will give the fans a preview of what to expect of the upcoming year after finishing 14-14 during the 2011-12 season. The exhibition game does not count toward regular season play which will begin Nov. 15 when Alabama State faces the Tigers of Auburn in Auburn at 6 p.m.
The Lady Hornets will be returning 11 players this season and are led by senior
Erica Henderson and junior
Quentori Alford. Alford finished the 2011-12 season as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
“With the returning players as well as the new players we have a great nucleus of players,” said head coach Freda Freeman Jackson. “With that being said we still need to work on some things and with us opening our season against Auburn we need to really prepare. We are still learning some things but I feel good about going into the game on Thursday against Faulkner.”
“Faulkner is a well disciplined team, they have a great program and they have a couple of D-1 players on their team. This is the type of team that will get up and down the court. Faulkner has a young lady by the name of Brittney Carter that averages a double-double and we know that “Q” (
Quentori Alford) will have her work cut out for her. But we are ready for the challenge.”
Carter is Faulkner's leading scoring, she is averaging 22.0 points per game thru three games that the Eagles have already played this season. She is also averaging 18 rebounds per game. Faulkner will be entering the game 3-0.
