The Alabama State University football team opened its 2012 spring practice Tuesday morning at Hornet Stadium.
A warm sun and crystal clear sky greeted the Hornets, who practiced for about 90 minutes. Spring practice will conclude with the Black and Gold Game on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m. at Hornet Stadium.
“Spring football is always fun,” head coach
Reggie Barlow said with childlike excitement. “I was anxious to get out here and see these guys. I slept in my stuff. I was ready to go, like Christmas Eve. I was very excited about today. Our guys have been working hard in the weight room. Coach (Karl) Jordan has done a good job with them in the offseason conditioning program. Now is the opportunity to do some football specific stuff and we're looking forward to it.”
As Barlow expressed his excitement for the opening of practice, he also talked about the goals for the team during the 15 practice sessions.
“We want to keep them healthy and make it fun,” Barlow said of the goals of spring practice. “(Also) to go back to where we were last year and build off of that. (We want) to become better at a team, become closer and get these young guys to step up and see if they can help us.”
The Hornets will practice Wednesday at 3 p.m.
