Rain, Lightning Cancels Football Practice

MONTOGMERY—A late afternoon thunderstorm complete with dangerous lightning, kept the Hornets off the field for their fourth scheduled spring practice session.

“You only get 15 practices so rather than wasting a day, I would rather not go out and just move it and get this day back sometime down the line and we will be able to get it in,” head coach Reggie Barlow said.  “We don't have anyone to play so the urgency to prepare for a team is not there.  We will use it to watch film and try to get better from that.”

The coaching staff has been reviewing the practice film from the first three days of practice and as expected, has seen some things that need to be improved on as well as some good things.

“The first three days have been going pretty good, of course we have a veteran group and these guys understand our expectations and what we are looking for as far as tempo and we have been pleased with that,” Barlow said.  “There have been some mistakes that are being made from some of the guys that I am expecting a little bit better from, but all in all, it has been a good effort by the guys.”

“It has been obvious when you look at the film, you can see some of those guys that played at a high level last year and you see them doing the same thing this year.  Then you have the young guys you are expecting to see things out of, and they are having to learn how to play the game at the speed we want them to play at.  There still are mistakes that we have to get cleaned up, but it has been some good film to watch on these guys.”

The Hornets will take the field again tomorrow (Saturday) for a 9 a.m. session.
