NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma scored single runs in the seventh and ninth innings to edge past Alabama State 2-1 Saturday in the second of a three-game baseball series at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
The Hornets (16-25) left two runners on base in each of the first three innings before scoring in the fourth.
Leo Rojas led off with a single and
Einar Muniz reached on an error, advancing Rojas to third.
Derrick Sanders' groundout scored Rojas to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
Alabama State's pitching and defense forced Oklahoma to strand nine runners through the first six innings before the Sooners (25-14) tied the game in the seventh on a RBI groundout.
In the ninth inning, Hunter Lockwood's two-out single to center field scored Max White with the winning run.
“I thought we played well, but we wasted opportunities early in the ball game to put runs on the board,” head coach
Mervyl Melendez said. “We came up empty and as we see it now, that was the difference in the ball game. I thought we could have scored three or four runs early in the game and had we done that, we would have won.”
The Hornets and Sooners play the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be audio streamed live on bamastatesports.com.
