NORMAN, Okla. –  The Alabama State baseball team lost the final game of its three-game series at Oklahoma, falling to the Sooners 7-0 Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Hornets (16-26) failed to generate offense for the second time in three games. Alabama State got only three hits and despite getting runners on base via hit, walk, or batters hit by pitch, stranded nine runners on base. ASU left a pair of runners on base in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Oklahoma (26-14) scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Sooners broke the contest open with a four-run seventh inning.

“Today's ballgame was competitive until the seventh inning,” head coach Mervyl Melendez said. “I thought (ASU Starting Pitcher Anthony) Ricciardi did a good job locating his pitches and keeping them off balance, but we just didn't get anything started offensively. It was a tough weekend for us at the plate. Eventhough we put the ball in play, we only had three strikeouts, we made some solid contact but the ball didn't find the holes. We need to continue to work to get better to accomplish the goals we set out to accomplish this year.”

Richard Gonzalez, Waldyvan Estrada, and Manny Rodriguez each had one hit for Alabama State, which opens a five-game homestand Tuesday in the first of a two-game series vs. Mercer. Game time is 6 p.m. at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
