MONTOGMERY—Alabama State University met at 11 a.m. for their fifth practice session of the spring and the results of the day's practice were not exactly what the coaching staff was looking for.
“I was a little disappointed today,” head coach
Reggie Barlow said. “I didn't feel the energy in today's practice and in the guys moving around from drill to drill. I know they are going to make mistakes when they are out here, but I look at the energy level, I look at how they look from drill to drill. I look at if they are listening, like when we say no tackling to stay up. It's that simple and it bothers me when the guys don't pay attention to that. You have to know how to practice.”
With a veteran team returning the coaching staff understands how much the players want to compete which is showing up in the practices, but the injury list is continuing to grow so the coaches want to keep people as healthy as they can this spring.
“You get guys that are getting competitive and I understand competitiveness,” Barlow said. But we have a lot to get done in a short amount of time and the injury list is getting longer and longer.”
Coach Barlow did announce a change in this week's practice schedule with this weekend being the Easter weekend. Saturday's scrimmage that was originally scheduled for 9 a.m. has been moved to Friday with the time staying the same at 9 a.m.
