Freeman-Jackson Girls D-I Basketball Camp A Success

After 13 years of hosting the Freda Freeman-Jackson Division I Girls Basketball camp this year's camp may have been the largest since Freeman-Jackson became head coach.  Coach Freeman- Jackson hosted 150 girls from the ages of 8-18 at Alabama State University in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome June 11-14.

“I feel that this camp may have been one of the best camps that we have had,” said Freeman-Jackson.  “I say this because these girls were really energetic, they listened to the coaching staff and they worked hard, they were very talented from the pee-wees to the 18 year olds.  Everyone was so involved and it was so competitive this entire week.”

With 150 campers in the Acadome the staff stayed busy.  Every basketball rim was being utilized even at Lockhart Gym were the overflow of girls ranged from 15-18.

“This might have been the largest group that we have ever had,” Jackson-Freeman said.  “I was so impressed about this group.  We didn't have any problems with girls, they weren't being disrespectful to one another, there wasn't any bullying towards each other, and the girl's attitudes were even great.  I was impressed not only with the turnout, but with just how the ladies carried themselves on and off of the floor.  We had over 60 campers stay on campus and they exemplified themselves as ladies.  I'm looking forward to the next year already, hoping that we will double our numbers.”

The 2013 Freda Freeman-Jackson D-I girls camp is tentatively slated for June 17-20.
