Hornets Practice Under the Lights

The Alabama State University football team worked under the lights Thursday in the second of two practices at Hornet Stadium.

Alabama State worked in shoulder pads and shorts for its evening session after wearing full pads Thursday morning. Head Coach Reggie Barlow was more pleased with the primetime practice than he was of today's first practice.

“I think the mark of a team that's mature is how they respond after you get after them pretty good,” Barlow said. “They came out tonight with a better spirit. They like night practices, and it wasn't as hot. Attitude-wise, they were good also. There's a lot of improvement we still have to make, and there's still about a dozen guys that we need to really step up and contribute at a high level.”

Despite being in just the second week of fall practice, Barlow and the coaching staff have identified several young players they believe will contribute right away.

“We've identified those young guys that we think have shown us they are going to help us on Sept. 2,” Barlow said. “OL Damian Love and Terease Chappell are two of those players. LB Willie Roller who's a redshirt freshman will play for us.”

The Hornets will practice Friday at 3 p.m. and hold the first scrimmage of the fall Saturday at 9 a.m.
