Wenzig Voted Payton Achievement Award

Alabama State K/P Bobby Wenzig received the Walter Payton Achievement Friday night during the welcome reception for the MEAC/SWAC Challenge.

The business major from San Diego, Ca. who has a 3.65 GPA in the classroom handles all kicking duties for the Hornets, leading the team in scoring with 76 points, converting 31-35 PATs and 15-25 field goals. He also averaged 41.5 yards on 70 punts for the Hornets with a long of 69 with 17 punts of 50+ yards and 20 downed inside the 20.

Wenzig received more than 50 percent of the fan vote to win the award over teammates CB Saeed Lee and LB Winton Steward.

First presented in 2008, the Walter Payton Achievement Award is an honor given annually to a player from each school participating in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge presented by Disney. The award is named in honor of the late Chicago Bears running back, Walter Payton, who attended Jackson State University, a SWAC school, in the 1970s before his legendary Hall of Fame career with the Bears.

Congrats Bobby!
