The Alabama State football team continued its preparation for Saturday's game at Alcorn State with a Tuesday night practice at Hornet Stadium.
The Hornets (2-2 overall, 2-1 SWAC) and Braves (1-3, 1-1) will play at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jack Spinks Stadium in Lorman, Miss. The game will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM.
“Practice was decent; it was another opportunity to get better,” head coach
Reggie Barlow said. “There's a lot of things we were able to install and take with us to Lorman to have an opportunity to win. It's their homecoming and it's going to be a big game for us.”
Alcorn State opened the season with a 22-21 come-from-behind victory over Grambling. Since that time, the Braves suffered a home conference loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff (24-6) and road losses to James Madison (42-3) and Arkanaas State.
“They run the exact same offense we run, the spread system,” Barlow said. “I'm not sure if the terminology is the same, but they run a lot of spread formations and zone reads with the quarterback and the running back. They are similar to us in that they like to play a fast tempo. Alcorn has a good team with some playmakers, so it's going to be important for us to recognize how they run their system.”
The Hornets return to practice Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Thursday at 11 a.m.
