A total of four former Alabama State football players completed a week of practice sessions across the country by competing in a trio of college all-star games.
Tackle
Terren Jones and cornerback
Saeed Lee were teammates on the Stars team in the Raycom All-Star game here in Montgomery. Free safety
Kejuan Riley played for the East squad in the East-West Shrine in Orlando, Fla., and QB
Greg Jenkins played for the American team in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Los Angeles, Ca.
Jones (6-7, 320, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.) perhaps had the biggest adjustment of the week. After being one of the most physically imposing players in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, Jones' size was par for the course this week among his competitors.
“I played pretty well; I had a really good time,” said Jones, who played at right tackle most of the week. “I prepared well this week. There's always room for improvement, but over all I did well. The competition definitely exposed me to NFL-type speed and strength, so now I know where I need to improve.”
Lee (5-11, 160, Miami, Fla.) admitted to getting off to a slow start before feeling comfortable on gameday.
“As the game went on, I think I adjusted quickly,” Lee said. “It's different when you don't know your opponent (without a usual scouting report) coming into the game. I think I played well and had fun.”
Riley (6-2, 208, SR, Wetumkpa, Ala.) worked at both free and strong safety this week, and enjoyed the opportunity to compete.
“I felt I played well. It was a good feeling getting out there flying around and trying to make plays,” Riley said. “This was a great experience and I had a lot of fun. I felt as if I belong with the guys I competed with. I thank God for everything. Now it's time to go back to work for pro day and hopefully get an NFL Combine invite.”
Jenkins (6-0, 209, Dade City, Fla.) perhaps made the biggest impression this week. He made the move to wide receiver this week, a position he hadn't played since ninth grade, in addition to playing quarterback with allowed him to show his athleticism.
“Besides the dropped pass, I think I played ok,” Jenkins said, who played both positions in the game and caught three passes for 40 yards. “I will continue to train as a quarterback as well as wide receiver moving forward.”
