The Alabama State Softball team continued preparing for its season opener at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex with a heavy emphasis on fundamentals.
The infield began the day working on its defensive positioning, footwork, and fielding posture. The outfielders worked on communication, tracking the ball, beating the ball to the spot, and hitting their cutoffs.
Offensively, the team practiced on its bunting and hand-eye coordination mostly. They were also refreshed on tracking the ball out the pitcher's hand.
“Practice is going good for the time being,” Head Coach Telma Hall said. “We're still waiting to get some assistants in officially to help out, because we have so much to work on with less than two weeks left. The seniors have really been an intricate part of this year's squad throughout the time of filling the assistant position. I can say that everyone is working hard, trying to contribute to the team and its goals this season.”
The Lady Hornets will travel to Macon, Ga. to participate in the Mercer Tournament on Friday, February 8-9 at Sikes Field on the campus of Mercer University.
