The pitching tandem of
Joseph Camacho and Drake Hloska combined for 13 strikeouts, while only giving up two hits; as the gold squad took a 2-1 advantage, by a score of 8-0, in the Black and Gold series.
After the first frame both teams were knotted at zero, before the gold squad registered three runs with a little help from the black squad's pitcher. With one out, both
Jahmal Brooks and
Derron Simmons drew walks. The next batter, Chase Waters would fly out to left field; while the next two gold squad batters Eniar Muniz and
Marcus Swint would earn in their at bats that brought home Brooks, resulting in the first of the ballgame. With the bases juiced,
Branden Castro blasted a double into left field that would score Simmons and Muniz. While rounding third, Swint would be thrown out at home on a relay from left field to close out the inning.
In the fifth inning, the gold squad managed another run on a pinch hit single from Austin Davis that scored Raul Gonzalez, who was hit by a pitch; to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Gold Squad extended its lead in the top of seventh inning. Brooks led off the inning by reaching on an error. With Waters getting on by fielder's choice, Muniz would lay down a bunt single on the third base line to load the bases. In his next at bat, Swint would draw another walk to score Simmons, who was hit by a pitch. Castro singled up the middle, bringing in Waters. After the second out, Christopher Biocic singled through the left side to bring around to Swint and Muniz for today's final.
The gold squad can claim the series with a Game 4 victory of this best of five series, which is scheduled for Thursday. The first pitch set for 5:30 p.m. Game 5, if necessary, will be Friday at 5:30 p.m.
