Hornets Practice in the Rain

ASU practiced in a cold rain in today's practice getting ready for Thursday's Turkey Day Classic
Alabama State University's football team has three more days left in the 2013 season which will culminate with Thursday's 90th Turkey Day Classic and today's practice was in a cold rain, but that did not damper the spirits as the Hornets hit the field to continue preparations for this year's new opponent.

This year's Classic will have a different feel to it as ASU will host Stillman College. It is the first time since the 1992 season ASU has not faced Tuskegee. That season ASU hosted Fayetteville State University and pulled out a 17-14 victory.

"It will be different this year," Head Coach Reggie Barlow said. "Over the past several years we have built up a relationship with the coaches at Tuskegee and we have not been able to do that with the coaches at Stillman yet. We do respect their team. They are a good team and have some things going for them. We will have to line up and play our ball."

From some of the things the coaching staff has seen is the talent level the Tigers have on the offensive side of the ball.

"I think on their offense their receivers are as good as any that we have played against in this conference," Barlow said. "Their quarterback is not your typical 6-1 or 6-2 quarterback. He is smaller like 5-8 or 5-9, so we have to make sure we are running to the ball."

"The running backs they have are not big guys either, but they are very, very explosive and we must control the line of scrimmage and be combative up there. We don't want these guys to be getting out in space because that could be problems for us."

The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. kickoff and will be shown live on ESPNU. It can also be listened to on WVAS FM 90.7 beginning with the pregame show at 2:45 p.m.
