The new signees and enrollees to the Alabama State football program is tied for the best incoming class in the country among HBCU's, as ranked by Boxtorow.com.
The Hornets signed 24 players on National Signing Day last Wednesday, plus had one player who will attend on an academic scholarship. ASU also had 10 mid-year enrollees to the program in January, which factored into the top ranking for the Hornets, who share the top spot with Tennessee State.
“It's always a blessing to be recognized as number one in anything,” said Alabama State head football coach
Reggie Barlow. “I really appreciate the assistant coaches. They went all over the country to find the best players that fit our program. This group of athletes we signed comes from the hard work of our coaches. It's great to have that on paper, but now that we have them here, we've got to coach them up. I'm excited and proud of everyone involved. It's a great time to be a Hornet.”
The Hornets open spring football practice April 2, with the annual Black and Gold Spring Game April 27.
