MONTGOMERY—Alabama State University men's basketball player Phillip Crawford has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week, as announced by the SWAC office.
 
The Mobile native led the Hornets to a 1-1 record on the week by averaging a double-double; 25 points and 13 rebounds per game.
 
He scored 21 points with nine rebounds in the Hornets close four point loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff and had a career-high 29 points to lead ASU past Mississippi Valley State 73-65.  He also had a career-high five blocked shots against the Delta Devils.  His 17-rebound effort against Mississippi Valley was one off his career-high of 18 set last season.
 
He shot 67 percent from the field during the two games and hit 77 percent of his free throws.
 
Crawford is second on the team and 18^th in the conference averaging 11.2 points per game.  He is also 18^th in the conference in rebounding (4.7) and second in the conference in field goal percentage (.566).  His .722 percentage at the free throw line is 10^th in the SWAC.
