As the days close out for the ASU football team with four practices left before the 2013 Black and Gold Spring game, the Hornets were productive although the heat was a little warner than usual.
“I thought we were productive," said head coach
Reggie Barlow. “There was a lot of intensity and I like that. We still have some work to do, and I am good with that. There were some players that stepped up today, but I expect more from all the players. I will say that the guys were focused.”
The Hornets are set to have their final scrimmage Saturday at Hornet Stadium starting at 9:30 a.m. ASU will continue to work on fundamentals on both side of the ball.
“I think we aren't where I would like for us to be heading into the black and gold game,” Barlow commented. “It's hot and muggy, and we are not really fundamentally in shape like I would like to be. We are heading in the right direction, but we don't really have enough time to concentrate on fundamentals like I would like to. That's something that will have to wait until fall practice.”
Although practice was only in shorts and shoulder pads, the Hornets still had a high intensity practice.
“I am glad to see us have a high intense practice,” Barlow said. “If we can continue to keep our guys motivated then we are doing our jobs. We come to practice to work hard and that's what I like to see us do. I think the heat may play a part in our intensity.”
