Alabama State baseball players
Waldyvan Estrada and T.J Renda have been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week.
Estrada (So., 5-11, 195; Loiza, Puerto Rico) was named SWAC Player of the Week after hitting .571 (8-for-14) with a double, grand slam, and nine RBIs. Estrada had a .647 on-base percentage and an .857 slugging percentage. He had the game-winning hit in game one of the series win over Mississippi Valley State as part of a 3-for-3 night with one run scored and 3 RBI, and hit a grand slam in game three of the series as part of a 3-for-4 game with three runs scored and 4 RBI.
In addition to being tied for the SWAC lead in homers and first in RBI (29), Estrada is sixth in the conference in batting average (.330), third in slugging percentage (.524), fourth in on-base percentage (.440), second in both hits (34) and total bases (54). Estrada is also tied for the team lead with 10 multi-hit games, and leads the Hornets with eight multi-RBI games.
Renda (So., 6-0, 200; Orlando, Fla.) was named SWAC Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week. Renda pitched his second consecutive complete game in an 11-1 seven-inning win over Mississippi Valley State. He allowed only four hits and one run with two walks and nine strikeouts in throwing 96 pitches, 63 for strikes. He struck out the side in the third inning in improving to 5-0 this season.
Renda leads the SWAC in wins (five), opposing batting average (.156), innings pitched (50.0), strikeouts (59), strikeouts
looking (19), is second in ERA (1.44) and fewest runs allowed (nine), tied for fourth in runners picked off (three), and
fourth in fewest hits allowed (26).
