MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Alabama State University Head Volleyball Coach
Penny Lucas-White has announced the addition of four players to the 2013 roster.
Dragana Cvoric, a 6'-0” outside hitter from Guca Serbia, will transfer to ASU from Midland College. She was twice named to the Western Junior College Athletic Association (WJCAC) All-Conference team and was the conference MVP in 2011.
During her two-year career at the Texas Junior College, Cvoric recorded 650 kills, 75 blocks and 37 service aces. Midland College was 37-21 during her two years as Midland won back to back conference titles going 18-2 over those two seasons. She led the Lady Chaps to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region V West Championship games both seasons.
Tiara Kelley will transfer to ASU from Vernon College. She stands 5'-9” and hails from Amarillo, Texas. She played one season at Vernon and led the team with 89 blocks. In 39 matches she averaged 2.15 kills per set and had a .328 hitting percentage. She was named First Team All-NTJCAC and First-Team All-Region, while also being named to the Region 5 All Tournament Team.
Ellyn Jones comes to ASU after playing two seasons at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). She is a 5'-7” setter and led IUPUI to their first outright Summit League Championship last year as the team's starting setter. She averaged 5.51 assists and 1.75 digs per set and was named to the IUPUI Academic Advisor's List.
Jamie Coleman will enter ASU this fall after a standout career at Farmington Hills High School in Farming Hills, Mich. She stands 5'-8” and will play as a setter and libero. Coleman was a three-time All League and All City honoree and was named All Region in 2011 and 2012. She received the Tournament MVP Award as a senior and was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year from 2010-12.
“I am extremely excited about the girls we have coming in this fall,” Lucas-White said. “We had nine first-year players on the team last year, so we actually got a little older by adding our transfers. Each player is very good, athletic and talented and they have experience and have experienced what it takes to win. They each have something different to add to the team and will make us better this fall.”
The Lady Hornets will open the season August 30 in Orlando, Fla., at the University of Central Florida Tournament. The full volleyball schedule will be released at a later date.
