Dixon Receives All-SWAC Honors

DECATUR, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference released its list of All-Conference players and Alabama State's Meagan Dixon has been named to the second team.  The All-SWAC teams were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sport information directors (SIDs).

“I am proud of both of my captains [Meagan -captain and Brehanna Rodrigues- co-captain] this year for aiding in changing the culture of this program and still contributing on the field,” Head Coach Telma Hall said. “They had a very large task in front of them that wasn't an easy task, but they remained faithful to their duties and we are only seeing the "budding" fruits of their labor.”

“The training the Hornet Council went through in the fall, under Kim Anderson, was a huge sacrifice on both ends but yielding results.”

Dixon, a junior centerfielder from Canyon Springs, Calif. finished the regular season going 52-for-136 at the plate. She recorded a .382 batting average, including 29 RBI (1st on team), 23 runs scored (2nd on team), nine doubles (1st on team), four homeruns (1st on team), and four triples (1st on team). She went 10-for-10 on the base paths; while garnering a .596 slugging percentage (1st on team). She held a .418 on base percentage; while tallying 81 total bases throughout the season.

“I will congratulate Meagan for her second team award, but knowing Dixon she will enjoy for that moment and go back to the drawing board for a much better reward, winning the championship,” Hall stated.

“I will say to Dixon, Rodrigues, and Bailey Patt that being recognized by a body of peers and others are always great awards to receive, but the only award that will give either of you true satisfaction in knowing that when it's all said and done your conscience is at peace with the works you have performed.”

The Lady Hornets will face Arkansas Pine-Bluff during the opening round of the 2013 SWAC Tournament Wednesday, May 8 at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Ala. at 11:30 a.m. The game can be followed via live stats at: http://www.swac.org/liveStats/liveStats.dbml?SPID=93269&DB_OEM_ID=27400&LIST_SPORT_KEY=W_SOFTBALL
