The Alabama State University bowling team hosted its first ever ASU Hornet Classic at the Brunswick Zone Bowling Center on November 11, 2012 and finished second. It was the first time the team took second place in a tournament.
 
The Lady Hornets went the distance in their first match against Jackson State University to take four out of seven games from the Lady Tigers in their first baker's match of the day.
 
Alabama State faced and overcame a three-two deficit to defeat arch-rival Alabama A&M University four games to three. With the win, ASU had to take on No. 8 ranked Sam Houston State University.
 
The Lady Hornets put up a fight against the Lady Bearkats, but wasn't able to pull out the upset. SHSU overwhelmed Alabama State four games to one in the championship game to take the victory and first place.
