Indoor Track and Field Flashback

This is a look back at one of the top indoor track and field performances of the 2012-13 season.

CARBONDALE, Ill.—The Alabama State University men's and women's track and field teams had a strong showing at the Southern Illinois University Invitational, which was their final indoor meet of the season leading into the SWAC Indoor Championships. In the team's only points finish meet of the regular season the women finished second with 116.50 points and the men finished fourth with 70 points.

The Lady Hornets had three big point producing events in the invite. ASU picked up 25 points in the 200m dash. Tia Rolle (24.81) won the event with Jasmine Pope (24.98) finishing second. Kadijah Gordon (25.19) was fourth and Latrice Lee (25.61) was seventh.

The 400m dash was the next main point producer for the women. Jasmine Pope (57.20) won the event and picked up the 10 points awarded to the winner. Kimberly Wedderburn (58.15) finished third, Jerrica Mahone (58.67) was fourth and Santina Williams (1:00.39) was 10th. The women picked up 22 points in the event.

Another big point producer was the 60m dash. Tia Rolle finished second (7.46) followed by Jasmine Pope (7.67) in third and Latrice Lee (7.80) in fourth. The women picked up 19 points in that one event.

The women's 4x400m relay team picked up another 10 points by winning the event. Wedderburn, Pope, Mahone and Gordon finished the event in 3:48.90.

In other running events, Artrailia Lesane finished seventh (5:13.19) in the one mile run and Shantia Wilson was third (2:18.99) in the 800m run. Paige Rankine finished the running events for the Lady Hornets in the 3000m run where she had a third place finish. (10:22.63)

The women also had several other top performances in field events which picked up points. Jahneel Tyrell finished tied for fourth (5.57m) in the long jump and Quinta Collier was sixth (2.75m) in the pole vault. Gordon also competed in a field event and finished second (11.46m) in the triple jump, while Tyrisha Chambers finished second (1.63m) in the high jump.

On the men's side they picked up 13 points in the 800m run with Brandon Coombs leading the way with a first place finish (1:56.23). Carlos Flores finished seventh (1:59.24) in the run.

The men then picked up 12 points in the 200m dash with Sylvester Byrd finishing second (22.53) and Shaw Lockhart finishing sixth (22.81) and Ryan Hall eighth (22.84).

The men's 4x400m relay team picked up eight points with their second place finish. Flores, Dyrez Ribeiro, Byrd and Coombs finished the event in 3:21.57.

There were several other top performances in the running events. Byrd finished fifth (7.07) in the 60m dash and Quantavious Lockhart also finished fifth (8.67) in the 60m hurdles. Rebeiro had an eighth place finish (51.35) in the 400m dash to close out the running events for the Hornets.

The men had two big point producers in the field events. Leading the way was the 13 points they grabbed in the high jump. Devauntay Brown finished second (1.94m) and Ribeiro finished fourth (1.84m).

ASU picked up nine points in the triple jump as Bryon Kearney finished third (13.71m) and Teven Avant was sixth (12.97m).

Lee Thrasher once again made his presence felt picking up points in two events. He was fifth (16.61m) in the weight throw and finished eighth (13.52m) in the shot put.

One other point producer in the field events came from Kearny's eight place finish (6.81m) in the long jump.
