Season Recap: Indoor Track and Field

The Lady Hornets won their fourth consecutive SWAC Indoor title
This is a season recap of track and field's indoor season.

The Alabama State indoor track and field teams competed in five regular season meets leading up to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Championships.

Those meets did a lot to help the women earn their fourth consecutive indoor title easily outdistancing second place Prairie View 218 to 155. The championship was also their eighth overall indoor title.

Tia Rolle led the women's efforts picking up wins in all three events she competed in. She won the 60m dash, 200m dash and then went over to compete in the long jump in the field events and won that as well. What was so remarkable about her achievement was that was the only time during the season she competed in the long jump.

Paige Rankine picked up a win in the 5000 meter run and Tyrisha Chambers won the high jump. ASU's relay teams continued their winning ways winning both the 4x400m relay and the distance medley event.

The men's indoor championship was much closer as the Hornets finished seventh, but were only 29 points out of second place as the championship was very close from top to bottom.

Christopher Amisial won the pole vault to bring home the men's lone individual win, but several other student-athletes had standout performances.

Lee Thrasher finished second in the weight throw and shot put while Brandon Coombs finished second in the one mile run, Carlos Flores was third in the 800m run and Quantavious Lockhart finished fourth in the 60m hurdles.

Head Coach Ritchie Beene received the SWAC Women's Coach of the Year award.
