FORMER HORNETS SHINE DURING WEEK ONE OF NFL PRESEASON

Several former Hornets took the field during the first week of the NFL preseason. Tarvaris Jackson who plays with the Seattle Seahawks, Nigel Carr-Baltimore Ravens, and rookies Greg Jenkins with the Oakland Raiders, and the Atlanta Falcons, Terren Jones.

Jackson threw for 128 yards in the preseason opener as the Seahawks beat San Diego 31-10 Thursday night. In those 128 yards he completed eight of his nine throws with two touchdowns."It's been a long time, but it was fun out there," Jackson said. "Guys have more experience and guys aren't making as many mistakes and we are on the same page. It showed in practice and in the game." He won seven games for the Seahawks as their starting quarterback in 2011. Being traded to the Buffalo Bills during training camp last season, it became evident that he would not win the starting job over Russell Wilson and Matt Flynn. The Bills released him earlier this summer and the Seahawks re-signed Jackson.

The Ravens re-tooled defense has been a big storyline throughout the offseason, and the new pieces were'nt disappointing in their debut. Carr tallied 4 tackles at the middle linebacker postion in the preseason win against the Buccaneers this past Thursday.

The Oakland Raiders rookie Wide Receiver Jenkins shined in his first preseason game. He came out strong with a 51 yard kickoff return in his debut in the 19-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. One thing he will remember from the Dallas game and anticipate for the future is the support he felt from Raider Nation at the Coliseum Friday night. "It was amazing to have support like that. It gives you a lot of energy on the field and it helps you," said Jenkins. "It was like a dream come true (playing in an NFL game). Everything was happening real slowly and it was a great feeling."
