The Alabama State baseball team opens an 11-game homestand by hosting the Youngstown State Penguins Tuesday and Wednesday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
The Hornets (6-3) are coming off an impressive week long, six-game road trip with four wins. Alabama State posted first-time wins over South Alabama (5-0) and Auburn (9-3), and then won the final two games of a four-game weekend series at the University of the Pacific.
"I have to feel pretty good starting off the season 4-2 on the road," head coach
Mervyl Melendez said "Our players battled through some tough games this week and we came out victorious in four of them. I'm very proud of their effort and execution."
The Hornets will begin the two-week long homestand with the 6 p.m. mid-week series against the Penguins (0-3) of the Horizon League. Youngstown State opened its season with series loss at UAB.
"It is always great playing at home in front of our fans," Melendez said. "Youngstown State is a new opponent for us this year, but we understand that every team at this level will bring different challenges and our team will be ready this week."
