Hornets Arrive In Houston

Alabama State's men's basketball team has arrived in Houston and started preparations for their quarterfinal round Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament game against Alcorn State, which is set for Thursday, March 13 at 12:30 p.m.  The SWAC Tournament is being held at the Toyota Center.

The Hornets left Montgomery last night (Monday), and after an all-night trip to Houston, drove directly to the campus of Texas Southern where they held their first work out at the TSU auxiliary gymnasium at 10 a.m.

"This is a great opportunity and the guys are really excited," Head Coach Lewis Jackson said.  "At this time of year there are tournaments going on across the country and our guys are fired up and what we are trying to do is win one.  It takes three to win the championship, but right now we want to focus on going out and doing a good job against Alcorn State."

ASU enters the tournament as one of the hottest teams with wins in their last three ball games, but all three of those games went down to the final seconds with the Hornets winning by three points, two points and four points.

"We won our last three ball games and I guess a coach is never really satisfied because I think we are still struggling defensively and being able to get stops when we really need them," Jackson said.  "However we have been able to make baskets when we need them, but we want to continue to go in and play good solid defense and try to put yourself in position to make shots down the stretch and then to get to the free throw line, make free throws and then you have a shot."

The game can be heard live on WVAS FM 90.7 with Jonathan Spells and Jay Holcey providing all the exciting action.  Please check with bamastatesports.com for any live stat or live video action.
