The Alabama State University football team held its final spring practice session before the spring break and the message following the practice was to keep working even during the off week.
Â
"It is so not fair to a coach (spring break), but I will respect state laws in letting them go for spring break," Head Coach
Reggie Barlow said. "Just knowing how I was in college but I didn't have any money so I didn't go anywhere but it's something that we hate to do but it is part of it. Hopefully they will come back and we can finish up strong."
Â
"We want to make sure we get everybody back here safe and healthy. We talked with them about enjoying themselves and being smart, but we wanted them to come back and pick it up from where we left from. We have installed a good bit offensively and defensively and it will go back to retention and what have they retained from the eight days we have been had.
Â
Today's practice also is the mid-point of the spring work and as one would expect there has been both positives and negatives the coaching staff has seen.
Â
"This spring ball has seemed more like winter ball because it has been so cold, but it's been good and I have seen some guys we didn't expect to get anything out of doing some good things," Barlow said. "We have had some guys like
Robert Brown do some good things and he is someone we think we can bring back to camp and get something out of him. Our d-line is still playing the way we like for them to play."
Â
"Offensively we have struggled a bit over the past couple of days but I think all-in-all there has been some decent play out of some of the guys. So we are seeing some positive things but there are still a lot of things we need to correct and get right."
Â
ASU will be back on the practice field Tuesday, April 1 at 11 a.m. Spring practice will end on Saturday, April 12 with the Annual Black and Gold game.
