Track Teams Ready For War Eagle Invite

Montgomery – The Alabama State University Track and Field teams will compete at Auburn in a two-day War Eagle Invitational. The meet will be held April 18th & 19th in Auburn, AL.  
 
Action for Friday will begin with the hammer event set to start at 2 p.m. and will end with the invitational 5,000m run set to begin at 7:40 p.m. Saturday's action gets started at 11 a.m. with the women's pole vault  and will conclude with the always exciting 4x400m relay set to begin at 6:20 p.m. 
 
This meet will serve as the final season tune-up for the Hornets as they look to improve their times heading into the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships April 25th-27th set to take place in New Orleans, La.
 
"We are excited to compete at Auburn,"said head coach Ritchie Beene. "Coach Spry and I are good friends so every time we get an opportunity to run at this meet, it offers us a chance to compete against some quality competition."  
 
The competition for the War Eagle Invitational will be stacked as host team Auburn and ASU will be joined by in state schools Troy, Jacksonville State, South Alabama, Samford, Alabama A&M and UAB. Other schools in attendance will be Georgia, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, East Tennessee State, Memphis and more.
 
"With us heading to SWAC next weekend the level of competition that we will be facing is a stepping stone, in order for our athletes to be better prepared for the upcoming championship." said Beene.
