Alabama State sophomore utility player
Perry Hindi was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hitter of the Week for her exceptional performance during this past week of action from April 27-May 3.
Ā
Hindi, who grew up locally in Prattville and came over this past season as a transfer student from Cleveland State Community College (Tenn.), batted 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored in a doubleheader last Monday at home versus Middle Tennessee State of Conference USA.
Ā
Hindi has seven multiple-hit games in her last 10 starts and has raised her batting average from .182 on March 23 to her current batting average of .355 (22-for-62).Ā
Ā
Hindi's versatility has allowed coach
Chris Steiner-Wilcoxson to play her at several different positions on the field including first base, catcher and the outfield.Ā
Ā
"She's the ultimate utility player," said ASU assistant coach
Jeremy Leak.Ā "She's a keystone in our foundation of building our legacy here."Ā
Ā
Against SWAC opponents only, Hindi ranks seventh in the conference for batting average (.441).
Ā
"She's the unsung player of our team," said ASU assistant coach
Emma Johansen.
Ā
"She plays hard no matter what position that you put her in and she's going to take full advantage of her opportunities.Ā She's been a great fill-in for the team, both offensively and defensively, coming from a silent leader type.Ā That comes from the hard work that she puts ināevery day.Ā And, she's very coachable."
