ASU to face Troy and Southeastern Louisiana this week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's soccer team will look to get into the win column this week as the Lady Hornets play host to Troy on Tuesday and Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday for Fan Day.

Alabama State (0-2-0) will begin the week on Tuesday with a home match against Troy. The Lady Hornets opened the season last week with a pair of road defeats to Ole Miss and Jacksonville State.

Against Jacksonville State, Ariela Lewis provided the lone Alabama State goal in the 3-1 loss, which snapped a streak of nearly 210 minutes without a goal, which dated back to the end of the 2016 season.

Gianna Guyot has played all 180 minutes in goal for the Lady Hornets this season and has recorded 16 saves.

Troy (0-2-0) comes into Tuesday's game off a 5-0 loss to Florida on Sunday. The Trojans have been shutout in the first two games and haven't seen the back of the net in 416 minutes, which dates back to a 3-2 loss last season to Louisiana-Monroe.

Mikki Lewis has played in 135 of the 180 minutes in goal and has made three saves.

Offensively, the Lady Trojans are paced by Amber Harless (three shots), Kiersten Edlund (two shots) and Qarli Stone (two shots).

The Lady Hornets will seek their first win in 12 meetings on Tuesday at the ASU Soccer Complex against Troy. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Southeastern Louisiana began the season on Friday night and defeated Jackson State, 3-0. The Lady Lions will have a full week of rest before playing in their next game, which is this Friday night at Georgia State.

Against Jackson State, Southeastern Louisiana took advantage of an own goal and got goals by Christina Cutura and Maddie Kresevic as the Lady Lions out-shot the Lady Tigers, 27-2.

Michaela Hawthorn was barely tested in the match as she registered just two saves.

Alabama State will seek its first-ever win in five tries against Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday at the ASU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and following the conclusion of the game, players and coaches will be available to sign autographs.
