MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State wrapped up spring practice with the annual Black and Gold game Saturday afternoon at ASU Stadium with the Black team claiming 21-15.
Hunter Hanson started the scoring with as 26-yard field goal to give the Gold team a 3-0 lead, before adding a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter for a 6-0 lead. He continued to add to the scoring for the Gold team with a 23-yard field goal later in the second quarter for a 9-0 lead and added two more (30 and 25 yards) for the final scoring on the Gold side.
The Black team roared back in the second half, scoring three touchdowns en route to the victory.
KHA'Darris Davis hit
Wallace Corker for a 12-yard touchdown pass to trim the deficit to 15-7. However, it was not the best catch of the day for Corker as he dove for a 48-yard pass in the first half that he grabbed with one hand.
They closed the gap to a single point with 2:42 remaining in the third on a Dakota Rocker six-yard touchdown pass to Kansas transfer Moses Marshall IV to trim the deficit to 15-14. The winning touchdown came when Rocker completed his second touchdown of the day on a 14-yard completion to
Larry Brown III.
Hanson finished with 18 points on the day for Alabama State.
"It was a good spring," Alabama State head coach
Donald Hill-Eley said. "We are able to establish some depth at some places and move some guys around to help in others. It was good to see our second team guys come out and push the first team today, and that bodes well for the fall. The biggest thing is that we came out of the spring without any major injuries."
Alabama State opens the regular season at home September 1 against Tuskegee at ASU Stadium. Kick is set for 5 pm for the home opener.
Season tickets are now on sale for the 2018 season at ASU Stadium. The Hornets play four home games during the 2018 campaign including visits from Tuskegee, Jackson State, Texas Southern and Mississippi Valley State. Several options are available for fans including a Young Alumni package and Group rates for the 2018 season.
