MONTGOMERY — In its final SWAC home series of the season, the Alabama State University baseball squad dropped both games of a doubleheader against Jackson State Saturday at Paterson Field. JSU earned wins by the scores of 5-0 and 16-1.
In the opening game of the day, ASU could muster only four hits after falling behind early. The Hornet hitters also stuck out nine times in the contest.
T.J. Griggs, Ray Pickering, Gerald Washington and
Drew Quinney each tallied hits for Bama State.
Ron James, Jr., registered a complete game on the mound for Alabama State allowing three earned runs on nine hits.
Jackson State seized the momentum of game two after posting eight runs in their first at bat. JSU also tacked on five runs in the fourth inning to give the Tigers a 16-0 lead.
ASU again finished with just four hits as
Jordan Mims, Darrion Pedro, Griggs and Pickering each recorded one. Griggs drove in the Hornets lone run of the day in the fifth inning with a double to right field.
Eduradao Padilla worked three and a third innings of scoreless relief to end the game for ASU.
The two squads will close their weekend set with a nine-inning tilt on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
