Lady Hornet Linksters Stand 2nd at SWAC Championship

Aileen Meredith is tied for 2nd after round one of SWAC Championship

ALEXANDRIA, La.
– The Alabama State University women's golf team carded a 332 in the opening round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Monday afternoon at the par 72, 5,884-yard Links on the Bayou golf course.

The Lady Hornets solid first round placed them second in the team competition at the midway point of the event. Freshman Aileen Meredith led the ASU lineup with an opening 76 and is currently tied for second in the individual medalist standings. Meredith and Jackson State's Cammyrnn Stith head into Tuesday's final round just one shot behind tournament leader Jennifer Sells of JSU.

In addition to Meredith's strong play, Danielle Robinson (77, 4th) and Taaj Hubbard (83, T-6th) both ended the first day listed among the Top 10 individuals. D'Andrielle Robinson posted a 96 (17th) and Brittanie Brooks shot a 101 (23rd) to round out the ASU lineup.

Jackson State leads the team competition by 13 strokes after a round of 319 on Monday. ASU is second followed by Texas Southern (372), Prairie View A&M (373), Grambling State (393), Alcorn State (430) and Mississippi Valley State (447).

The SWAC Championship concludes with a final 18 holes of play Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.
