Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Jessica Priest's second half goal was the only score of the game as Alabama State defeated Texas Southern 1-0 Friday afternoon at the YMCA Complex to stop a two-game losing streak.

Despite peppering Texas Southern goaltender Keisha McDonald with shots, ASU (3-11-1, 3-2-1 SWAC) found itself in a scoreless tie against the Tigers (1-10, 1-5 SWAC). But in the 78th minute, Priest scored on passes from Sheena Bell and Maiya Moore to put the Lady Hornets on the scoreboard. It was her third goal of the season and gave her seven points, both tied for second on the team.

Thanks to outstanding defensive play, ASU goaltender Candise Jacobs, who shared Southwestern Athletic Conference Goaltender of the Week honors last week, stopped the only shot she faced to record her third shutout of the season.

The Lady Hornets are back in action Sunday at home against Prairie View A&M. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
