Sept.. 30, 2005

Final Stats

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - After a loss in its last game to Columbus State, ASU women's soccer coach Kendall Phillips felt that his team was poised for a big breakthrough when it started the conference portion of its schedule.

He couldn't have been more right.

Jessica Priest scored two goals - including Alabama State's first of the season in the 12th minute - and goalkeeper Candise Jacobs recorded her first shutout as the Lady Hornets earned a 4-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday -- the first in the two-year history of women's soccer at ASU.

Ahead 1-0, the Lady Hornets (1-9, 1-0 SWAC East) got scores from Priest, Imani Rogers and Maiya Moore over a 13-minute span midway through the second half to secure the victory. UAPB took only three shots and did not post a shot on goal against the ASU defense.

The Lady Hornets are in action again on Friday at 2 p.m. against Jackson State at the Emory Folmar YMCA Complex by AUM.
