Second Half Struggles Strangle Lady Hornets against UNLV

Nov. 18, 2005

Final Stats

CHICAGO - L'Teisha Holloway had an outstanding first game for the Alabama State, which played great in the first half against Nevada-Las Vegas in the opening round of the DePaul Invitational.

But UNLV went on a 10-0 run to start the second half and never looked back, posting an 81-59 win at the DePaul Athletic Center. The Runnin' Rebels held the Lady Hornets to just two field goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half and led by as many as 25 points.

Holloway, though, showed why head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson had faith in starting the freshman in her first collegiate game. She scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed five rebounds and added three steals in 33 minutes. She scored 13 in the second half but her teammates were only able to add 11 more.

ASU committed 14 of its 25 turnovers in the second half and shot only 33 percent from the field (compared to 48 percent in the first half). UNLV would take advantage, especially from the foul line, hitting 19 free throws and taking much of the steam out of the Lady Hornets.

Brittany Burns added 10 points and five rebounds while Shantae Robinson had eight assists to go with seven points. Kisha Lee had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead UNLV.

ASU will face Harvard Saturday at 7 p.m. before finishing its three-day Chicago road swing against Illinois-Chicago on Sunday.
