Nov. 20, 2005

Final Stats

CHICAGO - Alabama State took a two-point lead into halftime of its game Saturday against Harvard in the DePaul Invitational. But poor shooting and a disappearing defense got the best of the Lady Hornets in a 69-56 loss at the DePaul Athletic Center.

Danielle Sanders scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead ASU (0-2), which shot a dismal 29 percent in the second half while Harvard shot 50 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.

A 3-point play by sophomore point guard Shantae Robinson with 5:59 remaining in the first half gave ASU a 28-17 lead, the biggest of the game for Bama State.

But Harvard closed the first half on a 11-2 run that gave ASU only a 30-28 lead going into the second half. The Lady Hornets then missed their first eight shots over the first seven minutes of the second half as the Crimson took a lead they would not relinquish.

Bama State would get as close as three points with less than four minutes remaining but Harvard would finish the game on a 13-3 run to seal the victory. The Lady Hornets made only seven shots in the second half, which tarnished any comeback hopes.

Four Harvard players scored in double figures, led by Jessica Holsey and Laura Robinson with 18 points each. L'Teisha Holloway and Latille Ross each had nine for the Lady Hornets, who play Illinois-Chicago on Sunday.
