Final Stats

GRAMBLING, La. - Lady Hornets head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson has made the trip to Grambling State seven times before Monday night and each time, ASU found itself on the losing end of the score.

But behind L'Teisha Holloway's 24 points and seven rebounds and an 18-5 run early in the second half, Freeman-Jackson and Bama State were able to post a 10-point victory and Memorial Gymnasium.

"This is one of the toughest places in the SWAC to win. There's nothing like beating Grambling in their gym," Freeman-Jackson said.

ASU (3-6, 1-0) led 40-36 after a foul-marred first half. The two teams combined for more than 30 fouls and shot 60 free throws. Luckily for the Lady Hornets, their dismal 56 percent performance from the charity stripe was overshadowed by the 42 percent effort by Grambling.

"We did a terrible job shooting free throws. I told our girls that they had to make their free throws if they wanted to stay close or pull away," Freeman-Jackson said.

The game was tied at 42 early in the second half before ASU broke the game open. Senior guard Frantina Coleman hit two big 3-pointers that keyed the run, scoring eight of her season-high 13 points during the stretch.

Grambling State (4-4, 0-1) closed to within seven points during the waning moments but could not get any closer.

Latille Ross scored a season-high 18 points for ASU, which plays next at Jackson State.
