Hornets Too Small for 'Bama's Big Guns

Dec. 9, 2006

Final Stats

Alabama State's trip to Tuscaloosa to face the Alabama Crimson Tide was a chance for the Hornets to measure themselves against the 4th ranked team in America. A 92-58 loss reveals that ASU still has a lot of growing left to do.

The Tide took advantage of their huge size advantage inside, going to forward Richard Hendrix early an often. The sophomore had the best game of his career with 34 points and 10 rebounds. His performance was especially important for Alabama since they'd loss their first game of the year earlier in the week and they were playing without stars Ronald Steele and Jermario Davidson.

"Richard simply dominated us," said ASU head coach Lewis Jackson. "Obviously, he is the difference. This is a very good team with lots of options, even when they have guys missing."

Alabama's interior dominance led to easy opportunities close to the basket and an incredible 67.9% shooting performance.

The Hornets were led by Andrew Hayles 21 points. Edun Moses added 15. Joel Bosh had 9 points and 9 rebounds.

ASU (2-5) is back in action on Saturday, December 16 when they host Georgia State in the Joe L. Reed Acadome at 7 p.m.
